ABOUT THE BLOG
Feeling Cyber-Insecure?
Maybe you’ve just been breached, or you feel uncertain about the state of your cyber-security. If you’re part of a small or medium-sized business, with no I.T. department, or a small jack-of-all-trades I.T. group, that’s a pretty frightening and solitary position to be in.
I hear many reasons for how people get “stuck” trying to manage their cyber-risk. The most common one is that “it’s big, complicated, and overwhelming”.
It’s true that you can make anything complicated and overwhelming, and the security industry does a fine job of that. But good security principles and practices absolutely don’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. Everyone can understand them better, and apply them better.
My aim with this blog is to make positive cyber security practices more approachable so that people feel enabled take action. Because action is often better than burying your head in the sand.
ABOUT EACH ARTICLE
Every post will address one cyber security issue in a bite-size piece.
My hope is that you’ll leave each article knowing:
Lastly, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues with people who’ve been there.
I look forward to hearing about your “war stories”, challenges, and perhaps how you got past them. If you’re facing a challenge that you’re still working to get past, perhaps some answers can be found here as well!
“Welcome!”
ABOUT ME
I’ve been very lucky to spend decades in Information Technology, helping people to solve their business problems using technology.
Since 2000, I’ve focused entirely on information security. I’ve helped many organisations since then to connect, do business, and share information safely.
That’s spanned many industries, including Retail, Manufacturing, Government, Health Care, Transportation, and others. I’ve worked through the challenges faced by small businesses, and by those with revenues in the billions.
I’ve spotted many of the patterns in how people approach cybersecurity and succeed, or struggle, in making sure that they are as safe as they want or need to be.
